How it began

The Story Behind ProtectaTip™

ProtectaTip™ did not begin in a boardroom. It did not begin with market research. It did not begin with an investor pitch. It began with three children. And a father who was tired of watching them get hurt. As a father of three, Aleks experienced the door finger hazard in the same way many parents do: unexpectedly, painfully, and repeatedly. Between the ages of approximately 8 months and 4 years old, all three of his children experienced door-related finger injuries in one way or another. Each incident lasted only seconds. Yet the memory of those moments lasted much longer. The crying. The panic. The rush to comfort them. And the overwhelming feeling that there should have been a way to prevent it. Like many parents, Aleks initially assumed a solution already existed. Surely a hazard this common had already been solved. Surely someone had already created a product designed to eliminate the danger. But after searching extensively, he found something surprising: almost nothing.

The Search That Went Nowhere

Years passed. The concern never disappeared. In fact, it became worse. Every time a door opened. Every time a door closed. Every time a child walked near a hinge. The same thought remained in the back of his mind: "What if it happens again?" What began as concern slowly turned into frustration. And frustration eventually turned into determination. Despite years of searching, Aleks could find little beyond door stoppers, products that did not address the core hazard itself. The danger remained. The risk remained. And children continued getting hurt.

The Moment That Stayed With Him

What affected him most was not simply the injury. It was the look that followed. The look every parent fears. The look of confusion. The look of pain. The look of trust placed entirely in the adults around them. And the feeling that, somehow, they had expected you to protect them. That feeling stayed with him long after the injury healed, long after the tears stopped, and long after the moment had passed. Because no parent wants to feel that they could have done more. And no child should have to suffer an injury
that can be prevented.

Credibility, WH&S, And The Plan

Rather than accepting these injuries as something children simply had to endure, Aleks became determined to find a way to prevent them. Frustrated by the lack of a genuine solution, he set out to address a hazard he believed had been overlooked for far too long.

Driven by a passion for prevention, Aleks completed a degree in Workplace Health & Safety (WH&S) and began approaching the problem through the lens of hazard identification, risk reduction, and duty of care. What many saw as an unfortunate accident, he saw as a preventable risk. That belief became the foundation of ProtectaTip.

The Sacrifice

Bringing ProtectaTip to life required more than time and effort. It required sacrifice. Believing deeply in the mission, Aleks committed everything he could to the project. He sold his home to help fund the development of ProtectaTip and continue moving the product forward. Later, he even sold his vehicle, reinvesting those funds into product development, engineering, intellectual property protection, manufacturing engagement, branding, and commercial preparation. Not because it was easy. Not because success was guaranteed. But because he believed no child should have to endure a preventable finger injury, and no parent should have to experience the regret and helplessness that follows when it happens. For Aleks, ProtectaTip was no longer simply an idea. It had become a mission.

Building ProtectaTip

Years of development followed. Concepts became prototypes. Prototypes became engineered solutions. Ideas became intellectual property. What began as a father's determination evolved into a product being prepared for international markets. ProtectaTip pursued patent protection across major global jurisdictions. Trademark protection followed. Engineering and development partnerships were established. The vision continued to grow.

The Bigger Vision

Today, ProtectaTip represents far more than a single product. It represents a commitment to prevention, awareness, responsibility, and helping create safer environments wherever people live, learn, work, and play. Aleks' vision extends beyond the walls of a family home. He believes every child deserves protection, whether they are at home, at childcare, at school, in healthcare settings, in disability services, or anywhere else they should be safe. His long-term goal is simple: to make ProtectaTip the standard safety upgrade in homes and child-focused environments throughout the world. So that fewer children experience preventable injuries. So that fewer parents experience regret. And so that one of the most overlooked hazards of modern life becomes one of the most prevented.
